To install Ford 10.25" gears in a 1998-2007 Ford 10.5" housing, use inner pinion bearing and race HM807010 / HM807044. 1983-1992 axles may require a Long Spline Pinion Yoke. For 2008-2010 axle housings, a pinion bearing spacer (SK F10.5-CONV) is also required.
Axle Details
The Ford 10.25" and Ford 10.5" axles, also known as Visteon and Sterling axles because they are manufactured by Visteon at the Sterling Axle Plant in Michigan, are exclusive to Ford and were first introduced in 1985. The two axles are almost identical using the same differential today as they did in 1985. There were slight variations to the ring and pinion gears and bearings over the years but many components remained interchangeable with the original 10.25" gears fitting axles up through 2010 with matching bearings. In 2011 Ford updated the ring and pinion gears to feature a 37 spline
pinion and yoke and changed the bearings so 2011 and newer axles require
2011+ gears and install kits. All 10.25" and 10.5" axles use use large 35 spline axle shafts, however, some versions of the Ford 10.25" came with semi-floating axle shafts while all Ford 10.5" axles are full-floating.
