Locker Recommendations Toyota Tacoma trucks are extremely capable off-road, especially when equipped with front and rear differential lockers. Some models came stock with an OEM rear e-locker but for those that did not and/or those wanting a front locker option, we highly recommend an Eaton E-Locker.

Toyota Tacoma Gen. 1 (1995 - 2004)

The following gears, lockers and install kits are available for 1995 to 2004 Toyota Tacoma 2wd and 4x4 trucks. All Gen. 1 Tacoma 4x4 models came with the reverse rotation Toyota 7.5" IFS front differential. All Tacomas with a factory rear electric locker came with the Toyota 8" TV6 rear axle and all 4x4 Tacoma trucks without the electric locker were built with the Toyota 8.4" rear axle. 2wd Tacoma trucks came with either the standard Toyota 7.5" rear axle or the larger Toyota 8.4" axle.

All Gen. 2 Tacoma 4x4 models featured the reverse rotation Toyota 8" IFS clamshell front differential. All Tacomas with a factory rear electric locker came with the Toyota 8" TV6 rear axle while open differential trucks have the Toyota 8.4" rear axle.

The following gears, lockers and install kits are available for 2016 to 2022 Toyota Tacoma 2wd and 4x4 trucks. All Gen. 3 Tacoma 4x4 models featured the reverse rotation Toyota 8" IFS clamshell front differential. All Tacomas with a factory rear electric locker or a manual transmission will have the new Toyota 8.75" rear axle, while automatic transmission trucks without a factory rear locker have the Toyota 8" V6 rear axle.
