1999 and newer axles use a different pinion seal and stub shaft axle seals than the 1998 and older axles. All other parts remain the same and interchangeable.

Axle Details
The GM 8.25" IFS axle is found under most of GM's current lineup of mid to full-size trucks and SUVs and features an aluminum clam-shell style carrier that houses a large 8.25" diameter ring gear and uses 28 spline CV axle shafts.

**Due to the relatively weak aluminum clam-shell design, it is not recommended to install any type of limited slip or locking differential in this axle.**
