Axle Details
The Dana 27 axle, also known as the D27 or Spicer 27, comes in both front and rear models and was used in Jeeps until 1974. It features a 7-1/5" diameter ring gear and 10 spline full floating axles. Many of the Dana 27 parts are interchange with Dana 25 axles and although the D27 came with stronger Cardan-Cross style u-joints, the carrier bearing and gears are smaller than those found in the D25. The Dana 27 axle can easily be identified by the 10 cover bolts, its oval shape with straight sides, the distinguished ring gear extension with low fill plug, and the cast circles on each side of the cover.
Note: This axle has a Carrier Break and gear changes may require a different carrier or thick gears.
